Cradle of Katipunan
Caloocan City located in two pieces north of Metro Manila is one of
the most densely populated areas in Metro Manila. The two parts of the city are referred to as Northern and
Southern Caloocan. Caloocan
is a residential and
industrial suburb to the
north of Manila on the
eastern shore of
Dagatdagatan Lagoon. Shoes
and other consumer items are
manufactured in caloocan
city.
The city
is famous in history because
the Katipunan (A secret
organization that started
the fight for independence)
was formed in the City of
Caloocan and is sometimes
called the Cradle of
Katipunan. It was here where
Andres Bonifacio and his men
fought the first battle with
the Spanish Colonialists.
It’s for this reason that
most famous landmark in
Caloocan is the sculpture of
Andres Bonifacio. The
sculpture can be found at
the end of EDSA Avenue in
the area now referred to as
Monumento.
The Manila
Light Rail Transit System or
the LRT yellow line’s last
terminal is in Monumento.
