Las Piñas started as a a small fishing port and an
important salt-making area during the Spanish Era. Today Las Piñas
City has become a major residential, commercial and industrial
suburb of Metro Manila.
Las Piñas City is well know outside of the
Philippines for its bamboo organ built in the year 1824 by a priest
called Diego Cera. The bamboo organ can be seen inside inside the St. Joseph
Church of the Parish of Las Piñas. The organ which gives a unique
sound is the only one of its kind in the world. It was made
from wood,
bamboo, and metal.
